N.S.W. Fire’s

We’ve had very smokey air here last night and also this morning (due to the Wiseman’s Ferry Fire & Budgewoi fire I expect). I’ve kept the house closed up to keep the smoke out. At first this morning I couldn’t work out why our solar-powered fountain wasn’t working and then I realised it must be the smoke blocking too much sun out!

Hope everyone’s okay and I want to say good luck to our firies who are all working so hard to contain these current fires.

Very glad to see a downpour today. On that note, I hope those along the coast were not affected badly by the hail today.

Softness, all good, thank you 🙂

Hope things have settle there Cathie956?

Yeah Jen, we had a bit of rain here this morning and I’m hoping other much-rain-needed-areas would’ve got some too.

Hope Sarah is okay with doing her exams too.

I’m in the Blue Mountains but safe, not far from Winmalee , Springwood and Yellow Rock, it would be the State Mine fire at Lithgow that would be trouble for us. My friend lives in Winmalee and in on of the most badly hit streets she’s okay but 50 houses were lost in the street. She feels so guilty because she even has flowers in the front garden beds.

Today has been a horrible day. There has been a very bad fire in the suburbs of Redhead/Dudley in Newcastle today, I’m only a few k’s away. It was burning out of control for hours, I could see the flames from my house. A few friends nearby had to evacuate…I think it has settled down now but its taken its toll! I feel so stressed and I have a massive exam tomorrow morning…sigh

My brother could see all the thick smoke from this fire in the air too from his place on the south of this area. I don’t know if it’s any consolation Sarah but that the other students in your area would be in the same boat in regards to having to do a exam today.

I really feel for those doing their HSC right now and who are effected by fire areas. I do wish the education department could have allowed these students some kind of chance to do it a few days later when it the fires had calmed down. I don’t know if this is possible though.

When I heard of one boy who was doing his HSC exams and that all his books got burnt in his house I felt so sad for him. That’s not at all fair and I wish there will be something they can do for these students.

Sarah all you can do right now is to try your best I suppose, try and stay focussed if the exam continues to be on – and remembering there are others in the same situation can sometimes help elevate how you feel a tiny bit too because you realise you’re not alone in this hard time. xo

That’s very true Softness, knowing you are not the only one going through this awful time is a small consolation.
When I had my HSC exams you used to some allowance if you were sick or had a medical certificate to prove you weren’t well? Not sure if this is still the case anymore, but surely they must take this into consideration and base your final results with a bit more weighting of how you performed during the whole year and not just this one final exam?

The poor boy that lost all his books in the fires, also makes me feel sad… And for everyone that lost their homes, pets and possessions.

I remember when I did my HSC a few years ago, they could give special consideration to people who were sick or had exceptional circumstances. The only issue was that if the people who got special consideration did better in the final HSC exams than the exams they did during the year, the special consideration didn’t really count anymore as they were just like “you did better in the final exams anyway….” It happened to my friends.

I’m not someone who loves rain but I really hope that the weather turns and we get bucket loads soon. I have a lot of work colleagues who live really close to the fires :/
