3 beauty looks to learn this summer

New season, new wardrobe, new make-up.

It’s time to leave that dreary winter behind and hit refresh with some stunning summer make-up looks. Because even if you’re planning on spending your days fresh-faced, under a giant sunhat at the beach, there is bound to be times when you need to glam it up. But don’t worry, we’re not going to bombard you with a billion different looks – in fact we’ve narrowed it down to just three that are all easy peasy and beyond beautiful.

#1 Golden & glowing

If you can nail the golden eye with glowing skin, you’re set for 80 per cent of your summer events. First off, you’re going to have to establish a killer skin care routine – AND STICK TO IT. Not only does this mean cleansing and moisturising every night, but you should also throw in an exfoliant like Natures Organics Australian Pure Lilli Pilli & Wattleseed Face Scrub every two to three days (depending on your skin type) and a brightening face mask like LonVitalité C1 Whitening, Moisturising & Pigmentation Face Mask, once a week.

As for an amazing golden eye, you can learn a lot from the photo of Gigi Hadid above. Firstly there’s the layer of bronze metallic shadow on her lids (try Sportgirl’s Glow Cream Bronze – it’s amazing! [$14.95, www.sportsgirl.com.au]). Then there’s the gold shimmer on her inner corners, which you can replicate with Klara Cosmetics Shimmer Eyeshadow in Gold Rush. And lastly, but most importantly, take a close look at Gigi’s waterline. Here, make-up artist Patrick Ta has geniusly applied pale gold eyeliner which has added a level of twinkle we couldn’t have even imagined. So for the same effect, make sure to apply a liner such as Ulta3 Metallic Cream Eyeliner in Gold to your waterline.

#2 Pinks & peaches

Straight from the Matthew Williamson fashion show comes this flirty pink perfection. Ashley Benson proved to us a while back that pink can look amazing on the eyes and this just adds further proof. Toned down just a little, this look is ideal for a picnic in the park, an afternoon BBQ or even a day at the races.

The inspiration for the eyes was a hibiscus flower and requires the layering of three pink/purple shades, starting with the brightest on the lid and fading out. You can create a similar effect using shades from the Colour by TBN Eye Shadow Palette in Romantic or M.A.C Cosmetics Eyes on M.A.C Collection – Purple Times Nine. Then finish off with a touch of mascara on the top and bottom lashes, add a sweep of subtle, rosy pink blush (like Inika Mineral Blush or L’Oreal Paris Nude Magique BB Blush) and keep lips looking natural with a tinted balm like Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Honeysuckle.

#3 Coral & confident

If there is one lip colour to add to your collection for summer, it’s coral. It’s fresh, vibrant and makes bronzed skin look even better. Start by selecting the perfect hue for you: we like NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Timanfaya ($39, mecca.com.au) for a bold statement or jane iredale Just Kissed Forever Peach Lip and Cheek Stain for a subtle flush.

To really make a statement with this lip colour, keep the eyes simple by sticking with just mascara and complement it with bronzed or peachy toned cheeks. As coral lip colours can have some yellowing undertones, it might also be a good idea to start using a whitening toothpaste like Colgate Optic White Express White Paste, to ensure your smile really sparkles.

Which of the above looks is your favourite? What’s your go-to summer beauty style?
