How to get the smoothest shave, without irritation

If you’ve been shaving for years, you may have gotten a little lazy with your technique. And because we want you to have the smoothest, sexiest legs (and underarms and bikini line) this summer, we thought we’d give you a refresher. So, to help prevent razor burn, nicks or cuts, follow these top tips.

#1 Don’t dry shave

When you take a razor to dry skin, you’re much more likely to end up with razor burn. Dry hair is difficult to cut and can break down the fine edge of a razor blade. Always use water and lather before you shave – water plumps up the hair, making it easier to cut and lathering helps to retain moisture. If you’re looking for an even easier way, opt for the Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment razor– it has a soapy solid bar around the blades that when added with water, will lather and moisturise your skin as you shave – all in one simple step. No shave gel, body wash or soap needed.

#2 Apply less pressure

A close shave doesn’t depend on the pressure you apply with your razor. Instead, use a light hand, so that the razor makes contact with your skin, but isn’t pressing into it. Using a razor with wire wrapped-blades like those made by Schick, will also help prevent nicks and cuts. Simply let the blade and handle do the work for you.

#3 Use a razor with a flexible head

Our bodies are not exactly smooth canvases. We all come in different shapes and sizes, with tricky body bits to shave like knees, ankles and underarms. Pulling your skin taut in the areas will help to make shaving easier, but they’ll still typically require shorter strokes and a flexible razor head that can glide easily over the grooves of your body. The Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment razor has a flexible four-blade pivoting head, which can help you to easily manoeuver around the curves contours of your body.

#4 Stay warm

This is easy enough to do when you’re in the shower, but if you’re shaving at the sink or with your leg on the bath, make sure you keep warm as you do so. If you get goose bumps from being too cold, this causes an irregularity in the skin, which can complicate shaving. So keep the water warm (but not scalding!) and if you’re outside the shower, make sure you’re wrapped up in a warm, fluffy towel.

#5 Moisturise your skin

No matter how perfectly you shave, your skin will always be in need of some moisture. But if reaching for some lotion post-shower is always the last thing on your mind, there’s something else you should know about the Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment Razor. Remember the solid soapy part we talked about before? Well another great thing about it is that it contains moisturising ribbons, so you’re completing this step while you shave. So even the laziest of ladies no longer have an excuse!

#6 Replace your blades regularly

A sharp blade is crucial for a close, comfortable and irritation-free shave. If you’re not already doing so, you should replace your blades regularly – roughly every 6-7 times you shave. A razor that scratches or pulls should be substituted immediately to prevent cuts and avoid skin irritation. The Schick Intuition Nourishment razor has been designed with an easily replaceable head, so you can conveniently keep spare blades in your bathroom cabinet.
