Workout buys you won’t regret

Workout buys you won’t regret

Fact: At every garage sale, you’re guaranteed to find some piece of fitness equipment in near perfect (albeit dusty) condition.

We’ve all been there, whether it was an ad that sucked you in or a celebrity (who you trusted!) citing a miracle ab machine as the secret behind their chiselled stomach. You may have used it for a week to a month, but when it failed to deliver results, it ended up in the garage or under the bed.

This article isn’t about those wasted purchases. This article is about the workout equipment and clothes that we, the beautyheaven team, have personally bought and believe are worth every cent. Did anyone say #fitspo?

#1 A set of kettlebells

You could just buy one, but I prefer a set that vary in weight (a four kilo, six kilo and eight kilo). There are so many exercises you can do to work all body parts – think chest, legs, butt and biceps. They’re perfect for squats, lunges and upright rows, and the best part is you can do all of this while in you’re in your living room watching TV! – Kym

#2 A cute workout outfit

You may think this sounds silly and superficial, but never underestimate the power of a coordinated outfit. If I look and feel good in my workout gear, I skip into the gym. It’s the same logic as heading out with the girls – you feel better and more ready to hit the dancefloor when you look great. I’m much more likely to go hard at the gym when I’ve paired my sports bra with my sneakers, than if I’m wearing a baggy old t-shirt over tights! – Anna

#3 Yoga mat

I have never once regretted purchasing my yoga mat – in fact, I treasure it. Not only is it handy to have when you’re going to yoga on the reg, but it’s a hell of a lot more hygienic than sharing sweat with a stranger. The added benefit of having a yoga mat at home is that you have a comfy space on which to stretch or do extra ab work after a run. – Sarah

Nature Collection Yoga Mat ($34.45, www.biovea.net/au)

#4 Weighted skipping rope

It won’t exactly break the bank (even if you buy the most expensive one), but I find it’s the easiest way to exercise when I’m short on time and/or can’t be bothered to go to gym. Plus, the weighted ends mean I’m working my arms a bit more. – Carli

adidas Weighted Professional Speed Rope ($49.99, www.amartsports.com.au)

#5 A backpack

It wasn’t until I bought a backpack that I started to walk to work. Before that, I never did any physical activity in the mornings. It’s big enough to fit my work clothes and shoes (which I pack the night before), so all I have to do is roll out of bed and pop on my runners. I get ready once I get to work. – Sam

#6 Thermal top

When everyone else is shivering in the cold with the wind whipping through their cotton jumpers, I am snug as a bug in my thermal top. Even when I’ve been sweating up a storm, my top keeps me dry and warm. – Yelena

2XU Women’s Micro Thermal Top

#7 Lululemon tights (ranging from $109 – $139, www.lululemon.com.au)

They may be $110, but they’re well worth the investment because the quality and comfort is amazing! They don’t fade and the branding stays put after every wash. – Issy

#8 Berlei Electrify Underwire Bra ($54.95, www.berlei.com.au)

I’ve been using two of these for a couple of years now and they’re still going strong. Comfortable, supportive and available in heaps of cute colours – what more could you want? You can buy them in a two-pack as well, which I plan on doing if and when mine eventually fall apart. – Beth

#9 Foam roller

A foam roller is ah-mazing for relieving any sore or tight spots after working out (or sitting down all day, or skipping yoga for the fifth week in a row – don’t judge me), and you can roll around while you’re watching TV. Who doesn’t love multi-tasking? –Katia

Target Active Foam Roller, $15, target.com.au

#10 A good pair of swimming goggles

Sounds silly, but the idea of swimming laps without a good pair of goggles is enough to make me run a mile (literally – as I choose to go for a run rather than a swim!). I always go for goggles that sit nice and tight so no water gets in, but not so tight that I get weird circle dents in my face that stick around all day. –Yelena

Speedo Fastskin Elite Goggles ($45.47, speedo.com.au)

#11 Boxing gloves and pads

I’ve owned a pair of boxing gloves and pads for almost a year now and I’m really glad I purchased them. If it’s raining outside or I don’t have time to go for a walk or run, I can work up a sweat quite quickly by doing a few boxing sets, alternating with squats and sit-ups. And I hate push-ups, so boxing is a great alternative for toning my arms. – Sam

Rock Boxing Focus Pad Kit, $49.99, rebelsport.com.au

  1. you should try LEELO ACTIVE… BETTER THAN LULULEMON

honestly the comfiest tights I have ever owned. I have so many pairs I just rotate through now! even better, they’re a start up label so supporting the little guys!

softest fabric, great customer service, high waisted and they don’t slip down when your working out.

They always run sales too so they are usually around $60AUD per pair of leggings which is super affordable.

    highly recommend.
