4 things you would never do to your face

Isn’t it crazy that we take such good care of the skin on our face but often fail to consider other parts of our body that need just as much attention. Let’s take a look at the things you would never do to your face and wonder why then, you might not think twice about doing them to other parts of your body.

#1 Forget to cleanse

There are endless benefits to cleansing your face. From removing dead skin cells, penetrating and cleaning pores to avoid congestion, giving a helping hand to other skin care products and improving your complexion, the list goes on! Failing to cleanse would lead to a dull, dry and dirty face and would also contribute to premature ageing..”

#2Go years without moisturising

There are obvious aesthetic benefits of moisturising your face – it gives you smoother, more supple and softer-looking skin. If that’s not a confidence booster, I don’t know what is! Emma Hobson, Education Manager at the International Dermal Institute explains, “Not using a protective moisturiser leads your skin to be more susceptible to the effects of environmental damage leading to dehydration, increased skin sensitivity and irritation and premature ageing.”

#3 Willingly use drying ingredients

You don’t just think twice about the ingredients you put onto the skin on your face, you think three times!. Emma lists the awful effects of using aggressive or drying ingredients on your skin, telling us, “It would become exceptionally sensitised and reactive, you’d struggle to put anything on the skin without it feeling [like] it was burning and highly irritated. You’d suffer from excessive dryness and possibly contact dermatitis.” Eek!

#4 Shave with a blunt razor

Just the thought of this makes me cringe! Imagine taking a blunt razor to the soft, sensitive skin on your face. Not only would it seriously irritate the skin (hello, shaving rash) but it could lead to permanent damage if it was a regular occurrence. Emma feels equally squeamish about the idea! “Ouch, just the thought brings tears to my eyes! A blunt razor can cause skin chafing and razor burns, increased skin irritation and redness, cuts and nicks that can get infected, and rough-textured skin.”

When you think about all these things you’d never do to your face, it’s kind of unbelievable to think that you do in fact do them to other areas of your body, like your underarms. We put our underarms through the wringer every day and often fail to take the time to give them the proper care they need. When you consider just what your underarms go through (think shaving, sweating, friction to name a few), it’s a wonder we don’t prioritise this part of our body more.

Using a formulated deodorant is one way you can take better care of the skin under your arms. Only Dove Antiperspirant Deodorant offers 48-hour protection from sweat and odour, plus it contains a unique ¼ moisturising cream that nourishes the skin under the arms, and reduces irritation from shaving.

When the bh members trialled the Dove Original Aerosol Deodorant, 70 per cent agreed the product reduced underarm skin irritation and 80 per cent felt that the look and feel of their underarm skin after trialing the deodorant positively affected their confidence. It’s really a no brainer!

Did you know about the negative effects of neglecting your skin? Have you ever thought about what you put your underarm skin through?

  1. I’m guilty of using drying ingredients like salicylic acid on my face, but without it I get breakouts and it exfoliates the dead skin cells away. My skin is oily and can take a lot. I use actives like retinol too, which is drying but I put a moisturizer over the top and it’s fine. Gotta dry out all those clogged pores, fine lines and pigmentation! I also sometimes dry shave my underarms if I’m not having a shower, just at the sink. Never had any issues either lol. Since discovering the new Garnier Micellar water with rose water, I don’t always wash my face, just wipe over it, then rinse, and wipe over with a toner followed by skincare. My face still gets clean. I guess these thinks just don’t effect me if I do then right. I’ve even taken a razor to my face, to remove a bit of peach fuzz from around my mouth! No razor bumps, nothing bad ever happened!
