Reading all the comments and other information it seems that Invisalign is not suited for my teeth. I love the idea as the treatment would be almost invisible and so easy to follow through but my teeth are rather more severely crooked than Nat`s.

Just about to get braces after looking at Invisalign but would take longer a little more expensive and not sure that I could really wear them 22 hours a day! I have been doing a lot of research but reading this forum has been great!

I went to an orthodontist not a dentist after my dentist said he could do it but a friend told me that a dentist did hers and then had to go to an ortho after stuffing it up!!!

I want have a great smile so hopefully the braces will do it!!

I`m not really sure is it worth switching to invisalign braces if i`m having the traditional one for 4 years? My teeth were pretty crooked and now look much better, theres still a bit work to do on them. I want to switch to invisalign mostly for the looks, so i`d be grateful if someone would tell me how unpleasant (if at all) it is to wear it. I also heard that invisalign is not really the best regarding oral hygiene. My dentist said it`s mostly up to me, and if i choose to go with invisalign, there is a chance for the braces to fit better, because of the new technology . I`m still having second thoughts.

Talk to your dentist as to whether going with invisaligns will take less time than braces. I had invisaligns for 2yrs vs. 2.5 it would have taken me with braces. Keep in mind that invisalign success is dependent on the user and 4years is a looong time. If you think that 4yrs might be too long a time period to be consistently motivated to use invisalign correctly then strongly consider going with braces instead. If you`re lazy with your invisaligns then you will have to keep going with treatment until you`re done (aka. The time period in which you have invisaligns will basically be indefinite) and you may have to order more trays (aka. You pay more $$$).

I`m over the moon atm and just had to share. I`m just over half way through my invisalign and I was searching through old photos and thought I`d show anyone who is interested (as I was always looking for pictures when I was trying to decide – and I could just never 100% believe the before and afters on some websites) I can`t tell you how much I hated my teeth, and how depressed I would feel looking at photos where you could see them. 10 months ago I would never have shown anyone a photo where my teeth looked so bad! But for the sake of comparison, I`m not so scared for once 🙂

There`s still a way to go, but 10 months in (out of 18) and I can already see a massive improvement 🙂 When you see your teeth every day, you don`t notice just how much they have moved until you compare it to a photo of how they were before you started. It`s moments like these that make it all worth it 🙂

So it has been a REALLY long time since I last posted. And I actually finished my treatment (completely incl refinements) a bit over 1 month ago. But I wanted to show you all my new smile! The photo above (sorry for the bad quality, so hard to find any where you can see my teeth as I avoided smiling with them for so long!) is from about 3 years ago and shows my teeth before treatment. The bottom photo was taken last month and shows my teeth now. Overall it took about 2 years, but I am so happy with the results. I feel much more confident and really would recommend invisalign to anyone who wants to straighten their teeth but is worried about bringing attention to them with regular braces.

That`s fantastic chrissynick! Your teeth have improved so much!

I too completed my invisalign treatment recently, and am still wearing my retainers round the clock, but I`m coming off those very soon. Mine was 1.5 years, I`m very pleased with the results.

Thanks Huiwen! Like I said, I`m so happy with the results. I was a bit worried to start with as my front tooth was quite crooked and wasn`t sure how much progress I`d make without traditional metal braces, but I couldn`t be happier :). It`s a bit hard to see in the front on photo just how crooked my front tooth was, but I think there is a photo on the previous page more from the side in case anyone is interested in seeing. I`ve actually had someone I know who has a similar front tooth cross over ask me about invisalign. Being an adult working full time in an office environment in a pretty large company, the idea of bulky metal braces just didn`t really appeal to me. I was trying to fix something I was already extremely self conscious about, the last thing I wanted to do was draw more attention to my teeth! Also, my teeth are prone to decay and I`ve had issues in the past, so being able to really get in there and clean them normally (without having to get into all sorts of nooks and crannies between wire) was really another huge advantage for me. 🙂

I`m just wearing my retainers at night now. I think that`s probably a good thing about invisalign, you get so used to them that wearing a retainer is a breeze – it`s just like an extension of an already established habit of wearing the aligners.

That sounds interesting. I`d rather have an under 5 minute putty mould then that though! I like the mint flavour of the putty! 🙂

Mint flavour? You must have been lucky! Whatever mine was tasted absolutely awful! and I just hated the feeling of it coming off. I have sensitive teeth and it was nearly too much! I guess everyone is different 🙂

Oh and I know it was a super old post but I did have mention of the horrible jaw breaking to me. Basically what I gathered was once you reach a certain age your mouth stops growing and it becomes increasingly difficult to correct over/underbites with elastics. They suggest that they can surgically correct these by surgically repositioning the jaw. Which is obviously pretty major.

I obviously opted for elastics, even though I knew from the start it wouldn`t correct my bite entirely. It has corrected it a lot more than first thought though, and to be honest, I was personally always more concerned about how crooked my teeth were than my bite… My orthodontist has said that he can always make my retainer have the ability to have elastics so I can keep continuing to work on /maintain a better bite… but it will never be perfect because I wasn`t a teen or still growing when I started my treatment.

I guess some people have really tiny mouths… I remember in school a girl I knew had to wear this thing which slowly separated her upper palette maybe? not good with biology 😛 and I think it essentially broke bone and it refused until her mouth was large enough to withstand orthodontic treatment and braces. I think the alternative to make room would have been to remove teeth which is usually a last resort.

So I guess it depends on why they were suggesting it as to whether there was any merit in the “”you can`t get braces without having surgery”” argument…

Again, I`m not an expert or professional, this is only what I`ve worked out from my own experience or understood from what I`ve been told.

So I`ve been MIA for a while, but anyways. I am on the home stretch. Saw the orthodontist last weekend and now I`m making minor refinements! It`s very exciting.

I wanted to share that this time when they had to take a “”mould”” of my teeth, they had a new way of doing it. Instead of biting into putty and having it set and then pulled off (which was horrible in that it felt like they were going to literally rip out your teeth – imagine a suction cup feeling.)… Instead they took a scan. It was a little time consuming (maybe 30 minutes?) but they basically just scanned each tooth using a laser type wand and it created a 3D model on screen. Yes, I had to keep my mouth open as they scanned the back and front of each tooth, but I`ll take that over that horrible putty any day!

It`s getting less and less invasive and uncomfortable as technology progresses which is great. I have absolutely no regrets and can`t wait to show you all my new smile a few weeks from now 🙂
