How to: slicked back hair

We loved the wet-look part of Kirrily Johnston’s RAFW ‘do and when we spied Megan Fox sporting a similar slicked back hairstyle (minus the hair as a necklace bit of course) at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, we spoke to Adrian Bosworth, Master Stylist at Oscar Oscar Salons in Melbourne, to asked him to share his styling secrets for recreating the look at home.

1. After washing and towel-drying hair, prep with a heat protective styling product, such as Dove Therapy Heat Defence Therapy Heat Activated Protect & Shine Mist or Aveda Smooth Infusion Style Prep Smoother which is a great multi-purpose styling product as it defends against humidity and heat styling as well as keeping hair smooth.

2. Blow-dry hair until completely dry. (There’s no need to make it perfect as you’ll be curling and styling it later!)

3. So that it’s easier for you to work on just the back section, as well as your mid-lengths and ends, put a headband in place first.

4. Using 2cm sections of hair use your ghd IV styler to curl the hair by turning the ghd 180 degrees and pulling it through the length of your hair. (Tip: think of how you curl ribbon by using scissors.) Repeat this for all of your hair.

5. Once your hair is curled you can gently brush out the defined curl using a bristle brush, so that you are left with soft waves. Lightly spray with a flexible-hold hairspray such as Aveda Air Control Hair Spray.

6. Finish the look by removing your headband and combing through a medium-hold gel such as Aveda Confixor Fixative or Matrix Biolage volumatherapie Bodifying Spray Gel from the front hairline to the back of your scalp. This will create the sexy wet look you are after.
