How to: fight flyaways

Picture this. You’ve spent 45 minutes washing, blow-drying, straightening your hair, only to have the whole sexy, sleek ‘do ruined by flamin’ flyaways.
First up, put the straighteners down – you should not be holding electric equipment whilst in possession of that much anger. Secondly, back away from the serum. It may seem like the simple solution to smooth flyaways but really, you’ll only serve to make your locks look greasy, which means heading back to the start without collecting $200.
What you actually need to do is take a piece of advice from Sonia Cotroneo, Style Director at Dario Cotroneo. She suggests investing in a big make-up brush – try Natural Glamour Luxury Body Brush for size – and some decent hairspray.
Holding the can about 30cm away, no closer as you only want to spritz the brush, not make it soggy and sticky, lightly mist the brush. Shake out and then brush over the top few inches of the hair from the roots downwards.
It smoothes flyaways, keeping them in their place all day long but won’t leave hair with that heavy, hard feeling of spraying hairspray directly onto the hair.

What a good idea! I'll have to give this one a try. The other product I've found useful is Schwarzkopf Silhouette Vitalising Creme. It's a mousse so you don't get that greasiness that you do with serums.

I have always stayed away from hairspray as I usually dislike the stiff glued together feel, and it doesn't work the best for my curls, serum does the greasy thing and has always been the only product available, this is such a wonderful tip, it lacks the heavy feel you get from direct spraying. Just too clever thanks soooooo much !!!!!

thinking about it, it s probably a newer version of spraying the hairspray onto your brush then brushing your hair with it to control the flyaways.

I suffer from these severly, lol, I am definately going to get me some of that KMS hairspray, I have their dry wax and it is totally awsome, I bet the hairspray is just as good. I am constantly trying new ways to get rid of the dreaded flyaways and can say that a leave in hair treatment does keep them at bay but I have not tried the hairspray myself, definatly going to give it a try as I just got myself a new brush as well.

Genius - I would never have thought to do this. I am trying out KMS molding paste in my hair today and have to say, I quite like the results. I bought it for Hubby, but I think he will have to share it now....

Oooooh this is one I'm definitely going to try. Ever since my last cut where the hairdresser went a bit too crazy with thinning scissors and not actually layering my hair properly I have pesky flyaways everywhere. Sounds like a cheapie too. MY FAV!

I'm the one that would head to the serum. But I see your point, all it does is makes your hair seem oily and unwashed, just like before you washed it. Haha.
