Hoorah! It’s Oscars time! If you’re anything like us, we bet you can’t wait to see what the stars are wearing as they strut their stuff down the red carpet.

And what’s just as important as the gowns on this glamorous night? The hairstyles of course! After all, whether you’re wearing Versace or Dior, you won’t be getting the snaps you deserve if your ‘do is letting you down.

But before we get into the gallery of star-studded styles, we thought we’d get you a few quick tips from the experts – you know, for when you have your night of nights…

“To ensure your hair is in optimum condition for your big night, I recommend weekly hydration treatments and hair masks in the lead up,” advises Brett Albury of Sydney’s SUKI salon. “And always use a heat protection spray when working with thermal styling equipment – it’s imperative to maintaining good hair health.”

“Make sure that your hairstyle works with your dress,” says Caterina Di Biase of Melbourne’s Heading Out Hair & Beauty. “If you’re wearing a very detailed dress I would recommend that hair be worn back…otherwise there’ll just be too much going on.”

“A low side bun teamed with fingerwaves is one of the most requested looks when it comes to ‘hair up’,” says Albury. “The look beautifully fuses modern and classic and says ‘instant glamour’ – especially when complemented with a red lip.”

Want the chance to look as glam as the celebs in our gallery? We’ve teamed up with the good people at the Australian Hair Council (AHC) to give you the chance to win a cut and colour consultation at an accredited AHC salon, plus salon services to the value of $300! And the good news is we’ve got eight to give away – so there’ll be one winner per state and territory!

For your chance to win, simply scroll through our Oscars 2011 ‘Star-studded styles’ gallery, and tell us, in the comments section of this page, who wins your vote for best hair and why.

Who wins your vote for best hair, and why?

Competition closes midnight Monday March 7th 2011.

Anne Hathaway

The ‘Love and Other Drugs’ starlet opts for fuss-free low-slung bun. Guess she wouldn’t want her hair to detract from that necklace, huh?

Hilary Swank

Looks like Hilary also got on the low bun bandwagon! The added volume and pretty clip lend the often-too-casual style some extra elegance.

Mila Kunis

The ‘Black Swan’ star can’t seem to put a foot wrong on the red carpet these days. Her subtly tousled, yet ultra elegant hair ‘do is no exception.

Scarlett Johansson

We love ScarJo’s edgy crop – it’s so not what you’d expect to see on the Oscars’ red carpet, but she’s working it a treat!

Hailee Steinfeld

She may be only 14-years-old, but the ‘True Grit’ starlet looks the epitome of Oscars elegance with her thick, plaited bun.

Maria Menounous

The American TV presenter proves that all you need to transform a half-up ‘do into something special is a bit of extra height and a few loose curls. Loving!

Reese Witherspoon

Brigitte Bardot meets go-go girl meets high school cheerleader? Either way, we’re a bit in love with Reese’s all-American sex kitten look.

Cate Blanchett

Better get that hair out of your eyes Cate – we’d hate you to trip down the red carpet! Someone give this girl some long-hold hairspray or she’ll be fussing all night!

Sandra Bullock

The Oscars must be hard for Sandra – it was just after last year’s event that her ex-husband Jesse James admitted to cheating. You’re putting on a brave face Sandy!

Amy Adams

Hmmm…there’s something we really like about these smooth waves, but something that just doesn’t quite work. We can’t put our finger on it – can you?
